Minnesota (MN) & Wisconsin (WI) Auto Insurance Requirements
In MN & WI, you must provide proof of auto insurance to law enforcement officials if they request it. If you are driving an uninsured vehicle on a public road and stopped by a police officer, you may face fines, jail time and/or possibly lose your driving privileges. The reason for state mandated insurance regulations are to decrease the number of uninsured motorists on the road.
Most states also require proof of insurance before you can renew registration of a vehicle but in MN & WI there are some exceptions. The laws vary in both states regarding minimum vehicle liability insurance.
